Durres Ferry Port

Situated in the heart of the city center, on the waterfront promenade, Durres ferry port and cruise terminal are within easy walking distance from this vibrant city streets, hotels, local markets, and lovely sandy beach.

Car ferries to and from Trieste, Ancona, and Bari in Italy all arrive and depart from this very spot. Besides Vlora and Saranda, this is the only direct international overnight crossing from Albania to Italy. From here, you can cross to Italy and get other ferries further to Greece, Croatia, and beyond.

The alternative international ferry crossing ports are in Vlora and Saranda further south in Albania.

Getting To Durres Ferry port

As the ferry port is located in the center of the city, if you are already there, the easiest way to reach the port is either to walk, take a local bus or taxi. A taxi is probably the most convenient way as it is much faster than the local buses. If you are driving, see the parking info below.

How to get from Tirana airport to Durres ferry port

There are a regular bus service and airport shuttle between the Durrës ferry port and the Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa, which is about 35 kilometers away from here. The bus journey lasts about 40 minutes and the service is available 5 times a day (check with ADIS Travel & Tours Agency +355 68 229 0722 )

The alternative is to take a taxi or pre-book a private transfer from the Airport which will cost you between 28 and 35 Euro, one way, depending on the route. This is probably the most comfortable option, you can book it here.

If you are arriving in Durres, to get to the airport by taxi, pick up a taxi right there in the port complex itself, where a parked taxi is waiting upon ferry arrival. The alternative is to get a bus from the ferry port to the airport which goes 5 times a day or a private transfer.

Luggage Storage in Durres Ferry Port

The left luggage office that offers left luggage facilities in Durrës ferry port is situated in the ferry and cruise terminal complex. There are also small travel agencies within the port and close to the port, that offer luggage storage. Local travel agents that store and look after your luggage are a good option if you plan to do some sightseeing before proceeding further or while waiting for your ferry.

Parking in Durres ferry port

If you are picking up or dropping off at the ferry terminal then there are parking bays just outside the terminal where you can park for a short period.

If you are not taking your car on the ferry, then there is a long-stay car park near the terminal, Flagship Parking and Garage in Rruga Myfti Kodra, Durrës. The car park is open 24 hours a day and is just a few minutes’ walk from the ferry terminal and the bus station.

Hotels near Durres ferry port – Where to stay

There are plenty of accommodation options near the ferry terminal. The nearest hotel is Central Aparthotel which offers some rooms that overlook the port. There are also nearby private accommodations and hotels to consider that are situated very close to the port and local transport, some offering sea views too. Check on the map other nearby hotels.

The potential noise from the passing-by traffic is difficult to avoid if you are staying near a busy Durres ferry port.

What to do while waiting for the ferry:

  • Visit Durres Amphitheatre in Rruga Kalase – amazing remains of a Roman amphitheater and a 9th-century church with mosaic-covered walls (see below photo) which is within easy walking distance.
  • Check also Venetian Tower aka Kulla Veneciane, a well-known medieval fort nearby.
  • Further down the road is the Archaeological Museum of Durres, also worth visiting if you have more time.
